Beyond Bubble Baths: Redefining Self-Care

Hello! I hope you are well and having a good week. xx

In this week’s episode of Somatic Movement & Mindset, I’m joined by the inspiring Melanie Cool, a licensed psychotherapist, integrative medicine practitioner, and behaviour change expert who is passionate about redefining what real self-care looks like.

Together, we explore an empowering truth: self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a boundary.
And it goes far beyond the bubble bath stereotype we often see portrayed in social media.

The Myth of “I Don’t Have Time”

How many times have you caught yourself saying, “I don’t have time”?
Melanie and I explore how this phrase often hides something deeper, a belief that taking care of ourselves is indulgent or optional.

But when we continually put ourselves last, we drain the very energy we need to live fully, connect deeply, and serve others wholeheartedly.
Melanie shares how shifting that belief from “I don’t have time” to “I’m allowed to prioritise myself” can be one of the most healing acts of self-care we ever practice.

Boundaries as Self-Respect

Setting boundaries isn’t selfish.
In fact, it’s a way of teaching others how to treat us and showing ourselves that our wellbeing matters.
Throughout our conversation, Melanie helps us see that
boundaries are the backbone of authentic self-care. They protect our energy, restore balance, and keep us connected to what truly nourishes us.

We also talk about how boundaries are not walls, they’re gentle filters that allow love, compassion, and kindness to flow without exhaustion or resentment.

Self-Care in Action

True self-care doesn’t have to take hours.
It’s found in small, intentional moments: breathing deeply between tasks, pausing to stretch, noticing your body’s signals, or simply saying no when you mean no.

As we discuss in the episode, when you start living with that kind of awareness, you’ll notice your nervous system softening, your breath deepening, and your energy returning.
That’s somatic self-care in motion, the gentle art of reconnecting with your body’s wisdom.

My TEDx Talk: Pandiculation – The Natural Solution to Chronic Pain and Discomfort

In this episode, I also share insights connected to my TEDx talk, Pandiculation: The Natural Solution to Chronic Pain and Discomfort.
While Melanie and I explore the emotional and mental boundaries of self-care, my TEDx talk dives into the physical side, showing how our bodies hold on to tension and how gentle somatic movements can help us release stress, improve posture, and ease chronic pain naturally.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d love for you to watch it. It’s a heartfelt talk about the body’s ability to heal when we listen deeply.

A Gentle Reminder

Self-care is not something you “fit in” when everything else is done.
It’s the foundation that allows you to live, give, and love from a place of wholeness.

As Melanie beautifully puts it, “The real work of self-care begins when you stop negotiating with your worth.”
