How to Keep Your Brain & Body Active!

The Total Somatics Approach to Health & Wellness Online Program at www.TotalSomatics.com educates and empowers you within the area of health and well being. If you are logged in to my online program, you will know how often I discuss the importance of Neuroplasticity, the process which increases neural connections within your brain.

In today’s blog we will consider why our brain is amazing. By using it in a methodical and intelligent manner you can reduce pain, improve posture, increase mobility, develop mindfulness and continue to enjoy the activities you love to do.

Your Malleable Brain

In recent years Neuroscientists have discovered that our brain is not ‘hard wired’ as once declared. Rather our brain is wired to continue learning with age. There are some regions of the adult brain which continue to stay as malleable as a baby’s brain! This means that new neural connections and neurons are constantly created, meaning we can continue to learn and absorb the wonderful world around us.

Obviously as with everything within the human body, there is die off and re growth. As we get older, we lose approximately 30,000 neurons each day, however with the amazing ability and plasticity or malleability of our brain, we can continue to create neurons and connections with the same capacity as a newborn baby!

The key to continue growing, plus improving neurons and neural connections is to become inquisitive and curious! The more we are interested and enthusiastic over hobbies, pursuits, challenges and other ares of our life, the more neural connections and thirst we have for life and living. Our Mindset plays a huge role within this area and is something I discuss in greater detail within The Total Somatics Approach to Health & Wellness Online Program at www.TotalSomatics.com. When we change the way we look at things, we see avenues for opportunities to grow and develop, thus creating a healthier head space to live in.

Mindfulness also creates changes to our neural landscape within 8 weeks of regular practise. Due to the plasticity or malleability of our brain, an increase of neurons and neural connections create a thickening within the areas of the brain responsible for awareness, focus, concentrations, decision making and emotional intelligence.

The Power of Pandiculation with Mindful Somatic Movement

Mindful Somatic Movement is a very powerful way to change old bad habits which can create poor posture, shallow breathing, leg length discrepancy and back pain, just to name a few. The reason Mindful Somatic Movement is powerful and has immediate results is because we use a 3 step process known as PANDICULATION. Pandiculation involves an increase of communication between the brain and muscles. When we practise pandiculation, we teach the muscles how to fully rest and relax. We re-educate the muscles and teach them how to coordinate efficiently, rather than staying chronically tight and tense.

Understanding the amazing process of Neuroplasticity, which is where the brain is malleable and has the ability to keep creating neural connections, we know pandiculation can have lasting benefits to our mind and body. These lasting positive effects begin to change how the body moves and behaves. These effects create an overall change in the way a person moves, operates and functions on a daily basis. This change is known by pain experts and neuroscientists as BIOPLASTICITY. The body has the ability to adapt and change to what we teach it. Remember that without your motor and sensory nerves supplying your muscles, your muscles would be lumps of meat, nothing else! Without sensory and motor input, your muscles cannot sense, feel or operate. So when we use The Total Somatics Approach to Health & Wellness Online Program, we learn knowledge and skills which we can apply to our daily activities. The more we apply the principles within our lifestyle, we sense and feel the changes. Our body adapts and improves, creating a reduction in pain, better posture, increased mobility, mindfulness skills and the opportunity to continue enjoying the activities you love to do.
